Laymar Crafts

For the most comprehensive site on woodturning I have discovered on the web, it has everything of interest to me and am sure you will agree when you have been there.

Stiles and Bates

For my special sourced timber such as hernia blocks I go to Stiles and Bates Nr Dover, Kent. Dave Bates, who is also an excellant woodturner and understands my timber requirements but, also supplies most of my other needs such as replacement gouges, sandpaper and various types of finishes. If you are in the area it is always well worth a visit to the shop for turning blanks, tools, finishing materials and a very friendly and sincere service. They also have probably the best tutorial workshops setup (spacious, well equipped and comfortable) that I have ever come across, one workshop is dedicated for woodturning, the other for carving, carpentry/cabinet making, walking stick making and other crafts. I dont think they cater for the hernia block style of turning that I do.

Nick Agar

Nick is a very interesting and talented turner. I learnt a lot from a course with him to further enhance my wall sculptures and other turnings. If you are interested in any type of turning course click on his name above, you won't be disappointed. His very well equipped atelier is situated by the waters edge on the river Dart, one of the most beautiful rivers and parts in England.

Chestnut Products

I always try to use one manufacturers finishing products. Chestnut Products fits my requirements with their environmentally friendly Acrylic range of sanding sealer and finishing lacquers and oils, even their Wood Wax 22, although still inflammable it doesn’t contain harmful solvents like most other waxes.

Hegner UK Ltd
