TURNING   SEQUENCE

of an

OAK VASE

A relatively small oak log was screwed to the faceplate with 6 size8 by 60mm coach screws using a compressed air wheel nut gun before using the hoist to load the log onto the lathe. I determined the centre of the log on the outboard end and the final trueing up of the log is done by slackening off the coach screws and inserting wooden wedges between the faceplate and the end of the log and then rotate the log by hand. This is done in stages and when satisfied that the log is running true I hot melt the wedges to the faceplate and retighten the coach screws.
